What You Need to know before your first Jiu Jitsu Class:
1. Gear and Attire
- Kimono (Gi): You will need a kimono, also known as a gi, which is the traditional uniform for Jiu-Jitsu. For trial classes we provide a gi.
- Rashguard: Wearing a rashguard underneath your gi is optional but recommended for added comfort and hygiene.
- Athletic Tape: Consider using athletic tape to stabilize your fingers and prevent injuries.
- Mouthguard: A mouthguard is highly advised to protect your teeth during training.
2. Essentials to Bring
- Water Bottle: Stay hydrated by bringing your own water bottle.
- Flip-Flops: Bring flip-flops for walking around the facility to keep your feet clean.
3. Hair and Clothing
- Hair Ties: Women should secure their hair with ties to keep it out of the way during class.
- Well-Fitted Attire: Avoid baggy clothing with pockets, belt loops, or loose fabric, as these can increase the risk of entanglement or injury. Opt for well-fitted attire that allows for unrestricted movement.
4. Jewelry and Accessories
- Remove Jewelry: Remove any piercings, rings, or earrings to avoid discomfort or injury during training.
5. Hygiene and Safety
- Clean Clothing: Wear clean workout clothes and regularly wash them to maintain a hygienic training environment.
- Trimmed Nails: Keep your nails trimmed to reduce the risk of scratching or injuring your training partner.
By following these guidelines, you’ll be well-prepared for a successful and enjoyable Jiu-Jitsu experience.
We look forward to seeing you on the mat!
